Club for Young People with Disabilities

Butterfly aims to empower young people with disabilities to become as independent as possible, and to gain opportunities to participate meaningfully in their communities and family homes. For the last five years, I have organized a weekly group at Butterfly where young adults with learning difficulties and physical impairments come together to learn life skills, eat a nutritious lunch, engage in physical activity, and develop and deepen relationships. Some more able members are employed to do small tasks around the lodge at Butterfly. The group has grown from an initial five to thirty young adults with more members being added all the time. An on-going outreach component linked to this group includes home visits and needs assessments for volunteers with specific qualifications in this area. Running costs for transportation and lunch run £50 per month.
